December 6. Day 340. Show time

It will come as a surprise to almost no-one that I rather enjoy a touch of theatrics. Lighting, costuming, the whole experience rather excites me. So while many, many people find taking their dogs for a Santa photo frankly ridiculous, mine went in costume. Naturally he was less than impressed by the crazy man in the beard. In any event, the Santa Paws photo was only the warm-up act. With the dog safely disrobed, the family headed off for the main event, the wonderful Hugh Jackman at the less than wonderful Brisbane Entertainment Centre. That man is the ultimate showman, the complete triple threat. He had the audience eating out of his well moisturised hands (I know about the moisture content of the hands because he complained of their dryness and hand cream materialised from a handbag in the audience. The woman who provided it was allowed to rub it in. Swoon). It's hard to know how much was scripted and how much was ad libbed but in the end it doesn't matter. What mattered was that Hugh said it like he meant it and there was never even the slightest hint of just going through the motions. He tapped danced his way into the hearts of everyone there, spreading enough joy to make even the biggest cynic forget the pain that is the Brisbane Entertainment Centre carpark and access. Only a consummate performer can do that. So thank you Hugh Jackman. You made me feel like all my Christmases had come at once.
