If I was 35 years younger and many, many kilos lighter today I could have passed myself off as a Surfie Chick (AKA moll) of the likes of the girls in Puberty Blues. For those not familiar with Kathy Lette's totally awesome novel the girls sat on the beach, fetched the food and watched the boys surf. Fortunately I am no longer a teenager (nothing would make me want to go back there) and my decision not to surf was entirely due to my total lack of balance and coordination and nothing to do with trying to win the attention of the boys by sitting on the beach. When the extended family decided they wanted surfing lessons I had no desire to try and stand up on a board (knowing that would be setting myself up to fail) but a day at the beach - that I would not say no to. Ever. And of course while I might not be able to surf, the kids took to it like ducks to water and the day was hardly a wipeout for me. It was a dog beach so the fur friend and I had a great time. And with fish and chips to seal the deal it was pretty much a perfect last official day of holidays.

ReplyDeleteAll my favourite summer time fun! I can't wait to be back on the beach in summer. We've been doing really well for getting out there this winter, but it's not the same as having the summer sun beating down too. Lovely photos, thank you for sharing on Country Kids and Happy New Year!
