July 4. Day 184. Gold mine


It's always exciting to see a new piece of theatre.
It's particularly exciting when that theatrical piece is distinctly Australian and it gives you the feels.
Gold which opened at Queensland Theatre tonight is that.
I love Australian stories that represent Australia as it is - not how we would like it to be; even when that picture is particularly unflattering. Change isn't going to happen by looking at the world through rose coloured glasses.
Change is also not likely to happen by preaching and nagging, no matter what people blocking intersections might hope.
Stories that put you in the picture and show you injustice are a better way to go.
Sure it is true that you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. But force feeding isn't a thing either.
It seems to me there is still work to be done on this piece but nowhere near as much work as has to be done on race relations in this country.
