April 5. Day 95. Sweet as


Sweet or sour? Why choose?
It used to be that sweet stuff was for dessert and savoury stuff for the business end of the meal and the two never mixed. But that was in older simpler times.
Then we realised that salt went well with caramel, that you could put chips in chocolate and that bacon went well with just about everything.
So today I went to lunch with colleagues. In keeping with the more flexible approach to food we ordered from the breakfast menu.
And I had a wee small attack of ordering envy when I saw one plate arrive at the table - waffled with berries, ice cream and bacon. Genius. Once that would have seemed weird. Now no-one bats and eyelid and why should they. Who decides what goes with what and when it is okay to eat it? Surely the tastebuds that are consuming it should have the casting vote. I'm just annoyed a colonoscopy prep diet meant it was off limits. Boo hoo.
