The Easter Bunny was still politically correct when I was a young thing, despite the fact that it was almost three quarters of a century after work began on a rabbit proof fence in Australia.
Such is the threat to agriculture and natives species posed by the rabbit that here in Queensland you can't even keep the introduced species as a pet.
And yet attempts to replace the Easter Bunny with the Easter Bilby in the hearts and minds of children have been largely unsuccessful. I mean who ever heard of a bilby delivering chocolate eggs? Next thing you know Santa will be on the outer because we shouldn't let children think it's okay to have a strange man enter your bedroom in the middle of the night to give you things. Also the fact that the man has clearly been spying "he knows if you've been bad or good..." is deeply problematic.
So I propose the Easter dog.
Problem solved.
