Parks are awesome. Central Park. Hyde Park every city needs a central green space. Brisbane was a bit late to reaching this understanding possibly because of the large suburban blocks and urban sprawl.
But as the city has gone up so has the requirement for city havens. We were a little bit lucky.
The replacement of old Brisbane with new Brisbane left opportunities. Step one. South Bank. Step two. Roma Street.
The old rail yards have created a bloody awesome city retreat paid for by the sale of luxury units around the perimeter. Most of us can't afford the view. All of us can enjoy the park and this weekend was Parks Alive, a celebration of what parks mean to the city.
The crowd were enjoying the stalls and the games and the activities brought in for the weekend.
But equally they were enjoying the best of what is always there.
They climbed trees, they rolled in the grass and they fed the ducks. A good time was had by all.
